WHAT to EXPECT:  
Business: The Annual Members Meeting of the Tualatin Valley Trout Unlimited Chapter will be held at 7:00 p.m. (social time at 6:30) on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Old Market Pub, 6959 SW Multnomah Boulevard in Portland. The agenda will include remarks by the President/Vice President, a financial report by the Treasurer, and the election of Board members.

General Board: Kim Swartz and Colter Therrill
Speaker:  Antonella Fillet, Project Manager - Williams Creek Habitat Restoration
Tualatin River Watershed Council members will provide information and updates on the steelhead, coho and cutthroat trout habitat inprovements on one of our local waterways. TVTU has long been a conservation partner with Tualin River Watershed counsel and we look forward to continuing the valuable work in these, our homewaters.

WHAT to EXPECT: Brian Marz, Fly Fishing Fall Run Salmon
Brian will talk about Fall Salmon fishing with your fly gear.
Brian has long history as a fishing guide and has been manager at the ORVIS Store in Lake Oswego; since their move from Bridgeport, they now focus solely on the flyfishing side of retail at this local spot.

WHAT to EXPECT: Brian Light, Steelhead-The Fish of 1000 Casts
Brian will talk about Fall and Winter Steelhead opportunities close to 'home'. He will include flies as well as terminal gear, along with tips on water, water levels, tactics and strategies!
There is little that can be more addictive or exciting than a Steelhead pulling line from your reel and cartwheeling over the water! Brian 'guarantees' to cut your casts down by 50-percent - that is quite the savings for the modern frugal fisherman!
Brian has over 25 years of fly-fishing experience. He started working at NWFFO full time in 2019 after a long career as an Executive Chef. He guides for trout, steelhead, and bass.

High in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California resides an isolated strain of trout - Golden Trout to be exact! Planted in other locations throughout the west, they remain in a few locales to our south and to the adventurous, are an incredible experience.
Come visit with Joel and hear about this feisty denizen of the high mountains and what it takes to experience their splendor! For bonus points - ask about the Boletes and wild onions....

A past TVTU Chapter President, Alex returns to us with a slide show and discussion about fishing the Bulkley River in British Columbia for steelhead.
An avid steelheader and spey fisherman, Alex has long been involved with freshwater fisheries and conservation. Come hear about BC steel!

The Conservancy buys land along the West’s finest rivers and streams to conserve habitat for fish and wildlife, protect key sources of cold water and provide public access for all to enjoy. Come hear about their important efforts and how some of Oregon's finest waterways have benefited and the role TU supports!

MARCH at TVTU??

WHAT to EXPECT:  Bella Padgett, Habitat Specialist, Friends of TRNWR
Our Chapter has a years long relationship with TRNWR and the dedicated restoration efforts associated with our namesake 'home' river. Many of our members have spent a good amount of time volunteering with the Chapter at the refuge and you have the opportunity to learn  more - if you have ever been interested in hearing more or actually getting your hands-on experiance with a restoration project....
Bella will talk about the history of the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge and provide an overview of habitat restoration work past and future. And she will discuss our plans for a series of 2024 TVTU/TRNWR Volunteer Conservation Opportunities, not just for Christmas tree placement in Chicken Creek, but to support other Refuge restoration work, too!

10 APRIL 2024: JIM COX, Western Rivers Conservancy.

“Sometimes to Save a River You Have to Buy It.” will delve into a 35 year history of efforts by the WRC to conserve and protect lands on more than 280 rivers and streams in nine western states.

8 MAY 2024: ALEX BARKUME, Past President of TVTU!

Alex Barkume is a past president of the Tualatin Valley TU Chapter and has long been involved in freshwater fisheries resources concerns and activities. He is an avid steelheader and spey fisherman. Join us in early May where he will present an informative slide show and talk on Bulkley River BC steelhead fishing.

FEBRUARY at TVTU??

WHAT to EXPECT:  Josh Linn, Royal Treatment Fly Fishing
Don't wait for 1000 casts to catch your steelhead - put the odds in your favor! No better way to spend Valentines Day than learnging how to catch the fish everyone in the PNW loves [or loves to hate]!
Josh is a native Oregonian introduced to fly fishing at a young age. Over the years he has been mentored by a great many anglers and that influence has turned him into a respected angler, guide, and instructor. He has taught hundreds of people to cast and guided many anglers into to their first steelhead.
Josh is a 20+ year veteran steelhead fisherman and during that time he has guided and fished many rivers including the Infamous River X in Alaska, the Deschutes and the Sandy rivers in Oregon as well as more distant locations such as Russia, and Sweden.

Over the past decade Josh has worked with major manufacturers such as Rio and G Loomis to develop fly fishing tackle, and has many signature flies with Solitude Fly Company. Recently Josh held a position at G Loomis as the their National Fly Fishing Sales Manager. Currently, he has a managing role at Royal Treatment Fly Fishing. If you are ever looking for Josh you’ll find him in one of two places, the fly shop or on the river chasing steelhead.

JANUARY at TVTU??

WHAT to EXPECT:  COLBY OLSON, Northwest Fly Fishing Outfitters
Fly Fishing for Bass in the Portland metro area. Colby guides trout, steel,and bass and is also an accomplished fly tyer who has a few bass ties to help with your success! Try something different if you haven't hit the warm water species - Colby can help get you started.
The Board is also trying a new approach with DOOR PRIZES - pick yours up upon arrival!
