TU Youth Essay Contest - Enter now!!

 



Directly from TU’s Headwaters Youth Program to you - they wanted to share an opportunity to win prizes by writing an essay - plus, every youth entry receives a years membership:

Second is something for the young person in your chapter and beyond! Youth ages 12 to 18 are invited to participate in the annual TU Teen Essay Contest. We hope to hear from teens across the country describing the moment they felt a responsibility to become involved in conservation. Deadline to enter is October 31.  Learn more about prizes and eligibility here. Any youth that enters will receive a free one-year TU membership.

MORE OUTING UPDATES

 


Thanks for hanging in there with us - hopefully the last newsletter hit everyone's inbox in time for planning your TVTU outings. Below are the most recent changes. Click this link to the entire list of UNREVISED Chapter OUTINGS for the year:
  • HARRIET LAKE [OCTOBER 15]: single day trip with protocols should go off without a hitch.
  • FALL RIVER [September 24-28]: CAMPGROUND REVISION - the trip will now bivy at ROCK CREEK CAMPGROUND at CRANE PRAIRIE as the original venue remains closed. As a reminder, campsites are the responsibility of the participant.
As previously noted, all trips are very fluid and we will try and keep updates coming via this site, Facebook, website and the TVTU newsletter [via email]. As always, if you have questions or wish to RSVP - contact Andy Andrews.

2020 Outings updated....


During the last board meeting Andy Andrews updated us on the status of the remaining Chapter OUTINGS for the year - obviously, there have been some changes and the trips all remain very fluid....please bear with us [and Andy!].
  • TIMOTHY LAKE [June 12-14]: this was postponed; being as it is one of the most popular trips, Andy and Jeff are looking to reschedule it to a date in September. Keep an eye out for updates.
  • LAURANCE LAKE [July 12]: so far so good; a day trip to Mt Hood, Andy is confident this can be pulled off without impact and gathering guidelines can be maintained.
  • MILLER LAKE [August 14-17]: so far so good with miller as well; though an overnighter, the crew anticipates being...

Recent temporary regulation changes....

SALEM, Ore.— Following poor Chinook salmon returns last fall and forecasted low 2020 returns in certain coastal rivers, ODFW is implementing some restrictions on coastal wild adult Chinook salmon harvest.

The changes to wild Chinook salmon harvest are consistent with existing ODFW management plans, which specify increases or decreases to harvest levels in response to changing stock status for wild Chinook salmon in various groupings of neighboring rivers.

There are no changes to permanent regulations for North Coast streams from....

Free Fishing Weekend



Free Fishing Weekend June 6-7
No special events this year, but it’s still free to fish
Nonresidents: clamming closed statewide, crabbing closed on the north coast
Salem, OR
 
Fish for free in Oregon the first weekend in June, Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7.
 
No fishing licenses or tags (including a Combined Angling Tag or Columbia River Basin Endorsement or Two-Rod Validation) are required to fish, crab or clam in Oregon that weekend. Although no licenses or tags are required, all other fishing regulations apply including closures, bag limits and size restrictions. See the Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations to find out more and remember to check for any in season regulation changes at FISHING REPORT.

April Outings.....CANCELLED


Latest news from Andy - both outings scheduled for April have been cancelled. He and Jeff [CRTU] are reviewing on a monthly basis as things develop. But for now, the kick-off at Lost Lake [April 19th] and the second campouting at South Twin [April 24th-26th] - CANCELLED!

April Member Meeting

To all our members, the Board of Directors for Tualatin Valley Chapter have decided to forego the April festivities and therefore have CANCELLED our Monthly Member Meeting for April; the monthly board meeting has also been cancelled. We do this with the utmost concern for our membership as well as the general public and hope that everyone remains healthy and that we can enjoy a short journey through to the end of this most recent situation.
Thanks to all of you for your membership and dedication; we look forward to seeing everyone again in near future.

Oregon Council of Fly Fishers International CANCELS their Expo

Albany, Oregon – March 7th, 2020 Today the Oregon Council President (Sherry Steele) has announced the cancellation of their 32nd Northwest Fly Tyer and Fly Fishing Expo slated for March 13th and 14th at the Linn County Expo Center, Albany Oregon.
Our Board of Directors have decided to be proactive in preventing the possible spread of the Corona-19. Our Expo draws thousands of Fly-Fishing individuals and Fly Tyers from all over the western states. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization based in Sisters Oregon.

March at TVTU??

GENERAL MEETING!
WHEN: Wednesday, March 11, 2020
WHERE: Lucky Lab Public House; Multnomah Village
WHAT TIME: 6:00 p.m.
WHAT to EXPECT: Josh Linn - "Untangling the Euro Leader"
Josh has been fishing using the European methods of nymphing for the past ten years. His presentation is focused on demystifying this modern nymphing approach; including tackle, techniques and tips to being successful.

Josh is a native Oregonian. His father introduced him to fly fishing at a young age. Over the years he has been mentored by a great many anglers and that influence has turned him into a respected angler, guide, and instructor. He has taught hundreds of people to cast and guided many anglers into to their first steelhead.

Josh has spent the better part of the past 20 years chasing steelhead throughout the Pacific Northwest and remote places in the world. During that time he has guided and fished many rivers including the Infamous River X in Alaska, the Deschutes and the Sandy rivers in Oregon as well as more distant locations such as Russia and Los Roques Venezuela 

Over the past decade Josh has worked with major manufacturers such as Rio and G Loomis to develop fly fishing tackle. Recently, Josh held a position at G Loomis as the their National Fly Fishing Sales Manager. Currently, he has a managing role at Royal Treatment Fly Fishing. If you are ever looking for Josh you’ll find him in one of two places, the fly shop or on the river chasing steelhead.
WHAT TO BRING: a few bucks for a beverage and pizza dinner; throw in a few raffle tickets and your best behavior!

WHAT TIME: 9:00am - 5:00 pm each day
WHAT to EXPECT: The preeminent gathering of all things fly tying west of the Mississippi! Over 200 fly tyers demonstrating what they do and the why's/how's behind it, fly casting classes and demonstrations, over 60 vendors along with everything else you can think of. Come and mingle with the best of best! Kids welcome!

Veterans - $5
