If you are considering going to Miller Lake for the TVTU Campouting this weekend - please CONTACT ANDY ANDREWS regarding his plans; he has concerns for the layer of forest fire smoke coming in from the fires in northern California. The air quality is reported to be diminishing especially in the Klamath County and surrounding areas and CANCELLATION of the campouting is a possibility.
CAMPOUTING!
WHEN: August 10-13, 2018
WHERE: Miller Lake - Digit Point Campground
WHAT TIME: whenever you can make it
WHAT to EXPECT: This 600+ acre lake outside of Chemult is home to many unique things for Oregon - first, it is one of two lakes in the state where night fishing is allowed for cold-water species! Second, Miller has a reputation for some very large fish - especially nocturnal brown trout! If you have never been - it is worth going at least once - and why not with people who have been there before! Be prepared, the lake is at the end of just over 12-miles of variable gravel road and like most of our high desert lakes, has a reputation for mosquitoes and high-winds [though, my most recent three trips there - only one had significant mosquitoes and only one had significant winds - and that was the same trip so the wind blew the mosquitoes away!].
DIRECTIONS: head south on Hwy 97 and turn west on Deer Creek Road/FS 9772 just before the Ranger Station north of Chemult [about 1-mile]; follow for a bit over 12-miles until it ends at the lake.
WHAT to BRING: a float tube, bug spray, a side dish for the potluck on Saturday and a friend if you wish!
