“What’d I Miss’ – Feb’s Meeting Recap

So what’d you miss? This annual mixed meeting thing is turning out to be a popular gathering – nearly 25 Stonefly Maidens joined the TVTU group at the Lucky Lab to hear Jason Borger present about Approach & Presentation to trout fishing. Jason spoke at this same meeting two years ago and is resoundingly entertaining. He is a very dynamic and personable speaker with a seeming innate ability to captivate his audiences – no matter how diverse they may be. Jason – the son of Gary Borger – in his own has and is carving his niche in the industry. His fantastic presentation in 2012 revolved around his experience consulting and performing as stand-in [aka Stuntman] for THE movie [yes. That one. Cue the sigh ladies – Brad and Craig – shadow casting – that was actually Jason! By the way – that presentation was a great one as well and if you ever have a chance to hear him retell it – don’t miss it!]. Jason is also an accomplished illustrator – not only penning impromptu images for TVTU members but also doing the illustrating for many of his father’s early books.

McKenzie Farms donates christmas trees to the Christmas for Coho project

On Saturday, February 22nd, volunteer members and friends of Tualatin Valley Trout Unlimited met at Mckenzie Farms outside of Carver Oregon to load and haul more christmas trees to our project sites near Seaside, Oregon.

A different kind of TVTU effort....

....and another one that was not widely known but was deemed by the Board - though admittedly not unanimously - as beneficial overall to the health of the future and respect for the outdoors, wildlife and our local rivers.

Salmonberry River Steelhead Survey Needs Volunteers

Salmonberry Steelhead surveys are going to start soon. Volunteer to help out with this long running program that provides spawning info on one of Oregon's premier coast range steelhead rivers.

Sure...why not? Send fishes into the fields. Native redbands, daces, lampreys are potentially effected and have been surveyed in the adjacent waters as late as 2007......

Besides providing us with some much needed snow pack, that last wintry influx has gifted those folks who were hemmin'-n-hawin' about trying to get to the F3T last Saturday a reprieve....it has been rescheduled to THIS SATURDAY!

Oregon Rep on Board: anti-Pebble Mine

Yes, that Pebble Mine - it has not quite gone away yet...though, thanks to YOUR comments and activities the plan continues to struggle to get off the ground but the arguments continue. EPA reports are in and assessments have been made and the arguments continue. Backers have pulled out, corporations have removed their support and funding but the argument continues.

Now Congress is once again taking note and taking part - and another Oregon representative is taking part:

WHAT TIME: 6:30 gather; 7:00 program

WHAT to EXPECT: Jason Borger presenting on strategies for trout; covering how trout perceive their environment and how we perceive theirs - how to piece it all together and apply it to fishing. Food and drink are available at the staffed private bar in our meeting room.

WHAT to BRING: good attitudes, a good story, and a chance to meet others of similar interests [oh - and a couple of bucks to buy a raffle ticket or two from that pesky Ron guy who has set up a VERY nice selection of items to win (he really does do a good job....].
