GENERAL MEETING!

WHAT to EXPECT:  Mary Ann Dozer - "Fundamentals of Flycasting"

Mary Ann Dozer first started fly fishing in 1995 when on a trip to Yellowstone NP and she has never looked back. She became a fly fishing guide in 2009. She is a Master Casting Instructor certified from FFI. She is a member of the Winston Pro-Staff Team. She continues to guide with Fly Fishers Place in Sisters, Oregon and also offers virtual fly fishing workshops. 
Mary Ann will be presenting this month on the fundamentals of fly fishing casting. She will be discussing the "why and how casters mime while practicing, the where and how of the stop, and arm mechanics to get the most out of your fly rod".

MORE MEETING INFO!

WHAT: member meeting times
WHAT to EXPECT: the board is looking for ways to increase participation and has discussed moving back the start time of the General member Meetings. We would really like people to be able to attend and some of the feedback is the inability to get across town during rush-hour. We are considering maintaining a soft start at 7:00 instead of the current 6:30.
We'd like to hear from you - would this help? Grab a board member at the next meeting or EMAIL US and let us know. We have found a great new venue and feel it is still centrally located for a widespread membership; it also is relatively easy to access and has offered us a great value.
WHEN: the board will not implement this time shift until at least the 2023 Meeting Calendar.

Alysia Littleleaf and her husband, Elke own and operate Littleleaf Guide Service in Warm Springs on the popular Deschutes River. Descendants of Warm Springs, Wasco, Yakama nation, Ute, Goshute, Shoshone, Sto'lo nation. She and her husband are active advocates and caretakers for our rprecious waters. Littleleaf Guide Service fly fishes redband and bull trout as well as steelhead on 35+ river miles of private property year-round.

Native Fish Society and Tualatin Valley Chapter have partnered to provide the "Wild Fish For All" scholarships!

In 2022, we are excited to support two "Wild Fish For All" scholarships with Native Fish Society

The Native Fish Society believes that supporting diverse voices builds a groundswell for the revival of abundant wild fish in the Pacific Northwest. To elevate these diverse voices and breakdown barriers to racial and gender diversity in fisheries conservation, the Wild Fish For All scholarship was created.

Application deadline is November 15th!

We have received word that not only will the esteemed Rick Hafele be attending the September 14th member meeting but Dave Hughes will be joining us as well! Two celebrities int he house with a knowledge base of epic proportion!

WHAT to EXPECT:  Rick Hafele - "Fly fishing Lakes"

Lakes fish to the beat of a different drum and this show will help you understand their rhythms. It covers the hatches, fly patterns, and tactics needed for success on lakes.

Rick started fly fishing over 50 years ago, 40 of which have been focused on fishing for trout in streams and lakes throughout the west. Starting when he was 12 years old in Illinois, Rick made the move west in 1969 where he has explored fishing in Washington and Oregon ever since. He has a masters degree in aquatic entomology with a minor in fisheries biology and has worked as an aquatic biologist in Oregon. For over 40 years, he has been able to watch and study fish and the insects they eat, both professionally and with a fly rod in my hand, throughout Oregon and many other states and provinces.

WHAT TO BRING: a few bucks for a beverage and dinner from the OMP menus; throw in a few raffle tickets and your best dinnertime conversation to share with others!

 

Don't forget - the general public is welcome to attend also - so bring a buddy, even if they are not a secret handshake member of TU....

CAMPOUTING!

WHERE: Fall River, Fall River Campground
WHAT TIME: whenever you can make it
WHAT to EXPECT: An adventure in Central Oregon - a sure crowd-pleaser! A spring creek that feeds the Deschutes, the Fall River has plenty of miles to explore and challenge all anglers. Come for the adventure, stay for the camaraderie!

WHAT to BRING: about everything you need to camp for however long you are staying; plus, you will need a reservation or tag on with another attendee.

August at TVTU??

 

NO GENERAL MEETING! 

Reminder - there is no general meeting for August! Go enjoy the outdoors and wonderment that Oregon offers [and report back to let us know what you did!]

WHAT'S COMING NEXT?? We will be back in stride with another IN PERSON member meeting on SEPTEMBER 14th! OMP will be the venue again - we are rebuilding momentum with in person meetings again and hope you can join us! So far the menu and meeting space have been great.

ADDN'L INFO: For the September 14th meeting we have RICK HAFELE scheduled - a perennial favorite! Rick will be talking to us about trout fishing Oregon Lakes! More info will follow but please put Rick on your calendar!

 

Koke on the Fly??

 

CAMPOUTING!
WHEN: August 18-22, 2022

WHERE: East Lake, Cinder Hill Campground
WHAT TIME: whenever you can make it
WHAT to EXPECT: An adventure in a crater! East Lake is one of two caldera lakes near Paulina Peak out of La Pine. this lake offers a number of different opportunities to fish for a variety of different species - and all can be caught on the fly [if that is your gig]. Rainbows, browns, and kokanee are all available with the odd brook tossed in to keep things interesting. Fish for cruisers on the flats or ply the deeper rock ledges if you want - all while enjoying the high elevation desert lake!

WHAT to BRING: about everything you need to camp for the weekend; plus, you will need a reservation or tag on with another attendee. There is also a lodge with rental cabins available. Boat launch - both public and with the lodge.

WHERE: Old Market Pub; Garden Home

WHAT TIME: 6:30 p.m.
WHAT to EXPECT: Eric Leininger - "If it swims, we chase it!"

Eric started fishing carp around this area about five or six years ago and has built a successful and entertaining program over that time. Most of his pursuit occurs in the Willamette and the Columbia systems and it is all sight fishing. Eric has customized his boats with a poling platform and guides them with push poles for fishing in 3 foot or less of water - just like chasing fish on the tropical flats! The PNW 'Golden bones' get big, well over 20 pounds and clients usually have quite a few shots throughout the day. It has become one of Eric's absolute favorite things to do in the summertime.
Eric Leininger has worked at Northwest Fly Fishing Outfitters in Portland, Oregon for the last eight years; he guided in Alaska for nine summers at Goodnews River Lodge before that and has been guiding in Oregon now for over 10 years. Eric is a G Loomis elite ambassador, a hatch outdoors pro ambassador, and a scientific angler‘s regional pro.
