September Member Meeting – recap

We’ve talked about providing some sort of recap for the various meetings we have for the Chapter throughout the year – thought this month might be a good time to try and start that. Obviously, we don’t want to tell the whole tale and give away everything but perhaps some highlights will provide enough background to pique the interests of some and show that many people – organizations, speakers, members and chapter organizers – work diligently to bring issue of interest to our members.

Circle Creek Off Channel Wetland Complex major construction finished

Before

I just received some photos from Doug Ray, our intrepid Restoration Specialist/Member at the Coast, who has been working hard constructing the newest Off Channel Wetland Complex on the North Coast Land Conservancies Circle Creek property. Tualatin Valley Trout Unlimited was able to secure a grant from Trout Unlimited's Embrace A Stream program to help fund this important work. Major construction is complete and there remains some hand grading and lots of native species planting to do. TVTU will be working at the site on November 2nd. If you are not already on our e mail volunteer list and would like more information about participating in this work, please contact me, Michael Ellis at TVTUrestoration@gmail.com.

September 26 - October 1
Fall River, Central Oregon

Next weekend you will find TVTU members on the Fall River! Fall River Campground will be the spot to stay and keep warm by the campfire with tales of tails! This small 12 site campground out of La Pine has been the TVTU home-away-from-home for the popular Fall River outing for a good number of years and is a nice spot to base camp - with open camping sites there is room to share as well.

2013 Pacific NW Fly Tyer Rendezvous!!

Saturday
November 9, 2013
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

If you have never been to the PACIFIC NORTHWEST FLY TYERS RENDEZVOUS you really should put this little gem on your November calendar! The Rendezvous is organized by The Flyfishing Arts and Conservation Society – a non-profit consortium of local fishing and conservation groups - that wanted to share the burdens to organize an event that while entertaining and informative could serve as a way to boost club funds through donations and auctions. Featuring over 30 tyers this year, the now renowned caterer from – Licensed to Grill – and a large cache of fishing related items for silent auction, the Rendezvous will certainly have something of interest to everyone!

And don’t forget – the meet is now large enough they have MOVED TO A NEW VENUE – the Jackson Armory [near the Air National Guard station at Portland Int’l Airport]. They look forward the extra room and bright lights!

Low flows on the Owyhee......

...means warmer water. Sure the browns may not be natives but they are wild [spawners] and the Owyhee offers some great opportunities. Try to respect these fish and be mindful of the lower water level effects on fishing - not only on the Owyhee but on all late summer trips!

Member Meeting - September

Next week [September 11] at our member meeting at the Lucky Lab in Multnomah village we feature Mia Sheppard who is the field rep for the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership. Mia will present a science based discussion developed with ODFW and the US Forest Service that outlines Climate Change and the direct effects anticipated to the State of Oregon. And just as an aside - Mia runs Little Creek Outfitters with her husband Marty so she would probably be more than pleased to visit beforehand about what is happening on Oregon waterways today!
Hope to see YOU at The Lab at 6:30!
