In Case You Missed It....

On the off-chance your inbox is chock full of items of interest and you've missed the message from TU, we're passing this along as a reminder....ACT!!

Trout Unlimited

On Friday [July 18], EPA released their Proposed Determination that places restrictions on large-scale mining of the Pebble deposit in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Thanks to you, and thousands of American's across the country, we've reached an important milestone for protecting Bristol Bay. But, we need your help once again to push these protections over the finish line – please take action today and tell EPA you support Clean Water Act protections for Bristol Bay.

Bristol Bay, Alaska is home to one of the last great salmon fisheries on the planet. The salmon, wildlife, people and fishing jobs of this beautiful and productive region are threatened by the proposed Pebble gold and copper mine. If built, Pebble could become the largest mine in North America.

We have an unprecedented opportunity to stop this mine and protect Bristol Bay's fish and jobs through the Clean Water Act.

Take action now by commenting on the proposed determination. Ask EPA to finalize determination as soon as possible and put Clean Water Act 404(c) protections in place for Bristol Bay.

Sincerely,
Steve Moyer Vice President of Government Affairs

ANNOUNCEMENT!!

POSTPONED
 2014 Barney Reservoir Outing

Due to fire season Weyerhaeuser has closed the mainline access road into the Trask State forest around Barney Reservoir. ODF has informed us the gate is currently closed and there is no public motorized vehicle access into the reservoir. They note that even if you find the gate open - there is a good chance it is temporary for patrols or official work and will close without notice.

Therefore, the Barney Reservoir Outing scheduled for Sunday July 27th is postponed until further notice.

TVTU will try and reschedule this day trip to be later this year after Fire Restrictions/Closures have been lifted but it may not happen until the 2015 season. Thanks all!

Making habitat for coho salmon fry on the Necanicum

Text and photos By Michael Ellis

This is the area on the Necanicum River that we will be placing the christmas trees to provide habitat for coho salmon fry.

Thinking of you......

While some of us are enjoying the Chewaucan - thought we'd put up some pics from the Timothy Lake outing last month. Andy Andrews once again acting as photographer and kindly sharing:

The Original Fisherman [or is that woman?] - apparently these Osprey were fledging their chicks and the TVTU crew was met with screaming/pleading calls all weekend!
Wish I could tell you whose back this was.......but they're having fun in the North Arm!
AHOY Matey! Prepare to be boarded! Or perhaps ranging the target at port?
Darned invasives! They're no fun....or are they? This appears to be Dick Holenback's arms - once again showing off!
Now the GOOD stuff! The Spread....

The Entree! A person needs their protein....
The ENJOYMENT!
The End
[Hopefully you can join us soon...]

To all who attended and brought some GREAT food! But especially those that helped set-up and take-down and cook and all that other stuff that allowed the rest of us to enjoy the evening.

Andy Andrews and Dick Hollenback - great grill work as usual!

Not sure how we got through the evening without a photo of the casting contest course - or even crowning a champion but we did....

What'd I Miss...June Edition

So summer anticipation had you at the bench tying something for that upcoming trip? Don’t blame you – but at least 20 folks made it to the June meeting to hear Doug Ray speak about the projects on the TVTU adopted home waters – the Necanicum. Michael orchestrated a nice accompanying slide show with photos – VERY interesting to see the growth of a project like that at Circle Creek.

Before Doug could wax poetic about habitat however, Erle kicked things off….
