If you have never been to the PACIFIC NORTHWEST FLY TYERS RENDEZVOUS
you really should put this little gem on your November calendar! The Rendezvous
is organized by The Flyfishing Arts and Conservation Society – a non-profit
consortium of local fishing and conservation groups - that wanted to share the
burdens to organize an event that while entertaining and informative could
serve as a way to boost club funds through donations and auctions. Featuring
over 30 tyers this year, the now renowned caterer from – Licensed to Grill – and
a large cache of fishing related items for silent auction, the Rendezvous will
certainly have something of interest to everyone!
And
don’t forget – the meet is now large enough they have MOVED TO A NEW VENUE –
the Jackson Armory [near the Air National Guard station at Portland Int’l
Airport]. They look forward the extra room and bright lights!
The
PNW Fly Tyers Rendezvous, originally started in 1998, is continued by
volunteers from groups such as the Northwest Fly Fishers, Washington County Fly
Fishers, Stonefly Maidens, Clark-Skamania Fly Fishers in an effort to gather
local talent from the fly tyer world and provide a venue to expose their talents,
tricks and trades to all. Attendees can watch, discuss and learn the techniques
with each featured tyer. Food is available for purchase and silent auctions
occur throughout the day - any proceeds are shared by allotting each
participating club an equal 'share' that is then donates to the non-profit of
their choice to “provide ongoing support for conservation and educational
efforts dedicated to the protection and improvement of the environment for all
our fish as well as nurture and encourage the growth of the angling arts”. The Tualatin Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited has benefited from
this party in the past and we gladly support it each year!
The Auctions: the 2013
Rendezvous will have a stunning assortment of items available to bid on. Naturally
there will be flies - dozens upon dozens of ‘working flies’ to add to your box as
well as ‘presentation flies’ for display! There are also art prints, fly
fishing apparel, waders and boots donated to the cause. And do not forget the
gear: tippets, fly lines and heads, rods and reels. There are books, knives,
rod holders and fly tying vises, accessories and tying materials. These are
simple silent auctions – find the item you want – note your bid on the items card
using your bidder number [provided at the front door]. Raise the bids the same
way – but be sure to watch your items card as you swing through the other
displays!
Rendezvous
will be held Saturday, November 9th, 2013 at the Jackson Armory - 6255 NE Cornfoot Road in Portland. 9am to 4pm.
